Facebook’s algorithms are changing again. How will the Facebook algorithm changes affect you? Point Taken, a Jacksonville-based public relations, marketing and web design firm serving corporations, mid-sized businesses, small businesses and nonprofit organizations nationwide, explains.
Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, says “Recently we’ve gotten feedback from our community that public content — posts from businesses, brands and media — is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other” in a post on Facebook.
Zuckerberg goes on to add, “I’m changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions.”
He explains you can expect to see more posts from friends, family and groups in your Facebook feed. That means people will see less posts from businesses and nonprofit organizations as Facebook implements these algorithm changes.
Andrea Vahl, author, speaker and consultant at AndreaVahl.com and a Facebook expert, predicts this is the end of reach for Facebook pages. “I think we are seeing the beginning of the end for Facebook Pages being a vehicle for businesses to reach their customers organically. In the future Facebook is going to be only an ads platform,” Vahl says.
So, what does this mean for your business or nonprofit organization? Point Taken believes your organization needs to capitalize on people-to-people relationships to make the new algorithm work for you. Point Taken suggests:
- Find an influencer who can speak on behalf of your brand: Hire an influencer to talk about your brand via their own social media account or engage an employee to speak on behalf of your brand.
- Create a group around your brand: Figure out what makes people engage with your brand and start a Facebook group that lets your fans interact with each other. Remember to monitor the group so your brand messaging is clear and on target.
- Develop content that generates conversations: Facebook wants to see content that will encourage users to interact with each other. Create content for your business or nonprofit page that will get people talking.
